Support Grows to Nominate Rohit Sharma as India’ T20 Captain

After the utter dominance displayed by Mumbai Indians in IPL 2020, more cricketers have voiced their support for Rohit Sharma as India’s t20 captain.

Yesterday saw the most deserving and dominating side lift the IPL title. Despite the reschedules and venue changes, it seemed that Mumbai Indians had only one agenda on their minds and that was to dominate the IPL2020. And dominate they did. The Rohit Sharma led side made quick work of Delhi Capitals in the finals and lifted their fifth IPL title.
The franchise had earlier won the tournament in 2013, 2015, 2017, and 2019.The debate of which is the better side between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians was settled once and for all. CSK led by Dhoni were unable to even qualify for the playoffs while Mumbai Indians were dominant throughout. While the whole MI unit worked like a well oiled machine, credit should be given to their leader, Rohit Sharma. The ‘hitman’ has been in devastating form and helped his team decimate all opponents.
Former Indian cricketer turned politician, Gautam Gambhir has once again demonstrated his support for Rohit Sharma to be India’s t20 captain. Gambhir believes it will be India’s loss if Sharma is not elevated to that status and had the following to say while speaking with ESPNcricinfo
“If Rohit Sharma doesn’t become India’s captain, it’s their loss, not Rohit’s. Yes, a captain is only as good as his team and I completely agree with that, but what are the parameters to judge a captain on who is good and who isn’t? The parameters and benchmark should be the same. Rohit has led his team to five IPL titles”

It seems that Gambhir is not alone in his support for Sharma as former Indian batsmen Sehwag had similar sentiments.

“Ab to aadat si hai sabko aise dhone ki. The best T20 franchise in the world and the best captain in the format. Deserving winners , Mumbai Indians, koi shak. Amazingly well organised tournament despite various challenges,” Sehwag tweeted.

More cricketers jumped on the Sharma bandwagon including former England captain, Michael Vaughan. Vaughan believes that Sharma should be made captain in the shortest format of the game. This will allow Virat Kohli to focus on ODI and test formats.

“Without question Rohit Sharma should be the Indian T20 captain, fantastic man-manager and leader and he knows exactly how to win T20 games, it would also give Virat chance to take a breather and just be the player, it’s works for all other teams around the world,” Vaughan tweeted.
