Jadeja to Miss Chennai Super Kings’ Six-day IPL Conditioning Camp

As IPL teams make their way to UAE, several teams are setting up conditioning camps to help players prepare for the tournament. These camps will therefore focus on fitness and will include a bit of cricket training as well.

However, one player will be unable to make it in time for the camps. The player in question is none other than Ravindra Jadeja. Jadeja will be sitting out on the six-day IPL conditioning camp set up by CSK. The good news is that he is the only Indian member of the CSK squad to not be present. Earlier they were rumours of MS Dhoni not being able to make it but those rumours have been squashed. Dhoni was tested negative for COVID-19 and has now managed to safely arrive at UAE.

Kasi Viswanathan, Super Kings CEO had the following to say about Jadeja’s absence “He has personal commitments. But Jadeja will reach Chennai in time to board the flight to Dubai on August 21”.

The training camps were given the approval by the Tamil Nadu government. The government had agreed to allow CSK team members to train behind closed doors. Both Head coach Stephen Fleming and assistant coach Michael Hussey will not be present at these camps. L Balaji, bowling coach for CSK will be the only member of the coaching staff to be present at the camp.

There are a few foreign players whose inclusion into the tournament has been put into doubt as well. Faf du Plessis and Lungi Ngidi are expected to reach by September 1st. At present, South Africa has closed its borders in the midst of the pandemic and no one can enter or leave the country. Imran Tahir is the third South African who is expected to join IPL after finishing off his duties in the Caribbean Premier League in Trinidad.

Viswanathan is hopeful that the South African players will eventually make their into the squad giving CSK a fighting chance to lift the trophy yet once again. “When we spoke to Faf and Ngidi they said yes, we are coming. They have said that they will only be coming after September 1,” Viswanathan said. It is not clear whether both players would be part the group of South African players participating in the IPL and take a charter flight.
