IPL is looking for a new sponsor after VIVO deal is cancelled

Will the IPL have a new sponsorship deal in place ahead of the start of the new season in September?

The IPL currently finds itself in the hunt for a new sponsorship deal for the upcoming season. VIVO, a Chinese mobile maker, sponsorship deal with the BCCI was cancelled last minute leaving the IPL open to new partnership opportunities. There are rumours Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali may be interested in taking over the partnership.

In a statement from a Patanjali spokesperson, SK Tijarawala, he said
“We are considering the IPL title sponsorship for this year, since we want to give the Patanjali brand a global marketing platform,”

The sudden end to the VIVO partnership came on the back of the horrific clashes between Chinese and Indian soldiers earlier this year. There is currently an attempt to boycott all Chinese products and this decision was made in light of that.

Brands like Coke, Amazon, Dream11, Tata Group, Jio and some others are also rumoured to be interested in the partnership.

Will this have financial impact on the IPL? In a statement from , Ganguly said
“I wouldn’t call it a financial crisis, It’s just a little bit of a blip. And the only way you can do it is by being professionally strong over a period of time. Big things don’t come overnight. And big things don’t go away overnight. Your preparation for a long period of time gets (you) ready for losses, gets you ready for successes.”

“You keep your other options open. It is like Plan A and Plan B. Sensible people do it. Sensible brands do it. Sensible corporates do it. BCCI, it’s a very strong foundation – the game, the players, the administrators in the past have made this game so strong that BCCI is able to handle all these blips.”

Do you think they will have a new sponsorship deal for the start of the IPL? Remember there is also negotaitions happening for a partnership with the Indian Cricket Team.
